There’s something timeless about baking cookies with little ones— the floury noses, the joy of cutting out animal shapes, the smell of something warm and wholesome in the oven. These Healthy Animal Cookies are a gentle nod to that magic — made with whole wheat and all purpose flour, lightly sweetened with honey, and perfect for little snackers.
We made these on a slow afternoon with music playing and tea steeping. My granddaughter helped press out every animal — each cookie a tiny masterpiece.

Ingredients
1/4 c unsalted butter
1/3 c sugar
2 T honey
2 eggs
4t cinnamon
1t vanilla extract
1c all purpose organic flour
1 1/2 c whole wheat organic flour
1t baking powder
Directions
1. In a medium mixing bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and honey.
2. Add the egg and vanilla, and continue to whisk until smooth.
3. In a separate bowl, combine the all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and cinnamon, then mix that with the butter mixture.
4. Shape the dough into a ball, then roll out flat. You can flat wrap it with plastic wrap or parchment and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
5. Pre-heat oven to 350, line two baking sheets with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the cookie dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
6. Use your cookie cutters and gentle cut out your shape, space them out evenly in the pan. They do not spread out very much.
Bake 350 for 12-15 minutes
Cool on a baking rack.
