3 Easy Ways to Winterize Your Self-Care Routine for Holistic Beauty Inside and Out

If December doesn’t feel like the most wonderful time of the year for you, it may be time to winterize your self-care routine. Our minds and bodies can struggle with the cold air and long hours of darkness. It’s important to take extra steps to keep yourself healthy and well so you can enjoy the season! Try these easy ways to winterize your self-care routine for holistic beauty inside and out.

1. Nurture Your Mind

We all have different ways of nurturing our mental and emotional health. Winter is perfect for reading, crafting, games and puzzles, or trying out a meditation routine. However, if these don’t work for you, or if you find yourself without enough energy to try them at the moment, here are two easy ways to boost your mood that work for just about everyone!

Engage your Senses

Sometimes, the best thing we can do for our minds is to engage our body’s senses. Go out of your way to enjoy the smells, textures, sights, sounds, and tastes of winter. Maybe that means splurging on a soft blanket or favorite bar of dark chocolate. Or it may just be slowing down while you brew your morning cup of tea, allowing yourself to savor the ritual.

Let in the Light

The darkness of the winter months can feel oppressive, so let in the light! Whether it’s flipping on an overhead light at 3:00 in the afternoon just to brighten things up, or getting cozy with candles in the evening, make sure you’re getting the light you need to feel energized and happy.

2. Move Your Body

Your body craves movement, so find ways to stay active even in winter. Try a form of exercise that works well indoors (such as yoga) or be brave, bundle up, and venture out into the elements for a brisk walk around the neighborhood in the cold and snow. You may be surprised how much better you feel afterwards!

3. Nourish Your Skin

Because it’s not hot, you may not feel as thirsty in winter as you do in summer. But it’s still important to stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water helps, but only if it stays in the cells. You can increase your body’s ability to store and use water by eating foods that are rich in essential fatty acids, like nuts and seeds, fatty fish, and leafy greens.

No matter how much water you drink, your skin still needs topical products to keep it healthy and smooth. This is especially true in the cold, dry air of winter! Choose natural products that contain fixed oils, or natural humectants like aloe vera or vegetable glycerin, and use them every day. Explore our line of natural skincare and beauty products here.

Learn more about me

I am the founder of Norabloom—a sanctuary where beauty, wellness, and artistry meet. My path weaves together many threads: I am a holistic esthetician, certified integrative nutrition health coach, somatic healer, yoga teacher, reiki master, and photographer. Each role is guided by the same intention—to nurture women in mind, body, and spirit, and to create spaces where they feel seen, held, and radiant.

I founded Norabloom 27 years ago as a small, soulful skin spa with my own line of handcrafted botanical beauty products. Over time, life invited me deeper into creativity—when my daughter was expecting her little one, I rediscovered my love for art and photography.  I’ve woven together all the things I cherish most into one harmonious offering—Norabloom.
